Stevie was rescued from a South Carolina backyard, where he had been chained for eight years (along with another dog named Wonder). He was raised by the Lancaster County SPCA, which collaborates with other rescue groups such as New York’s Diamonds in the Ruff. Upon learning about Stevie, Diamonds in the Ruff felt compelled to adopt him into their rescue family.

When Stevie first arrived at Diamonds in the Rough, it was clear that he had a full plate. In addition to being blind, Stevie had fleas, worms, and lost fur. They ultimately determined that he had an old corn cob lodged in his intestines, which necessitated surgical removal. In addition to his medical issues, his foster family had to be patient as he adjusted to life with a loving family.

Erin Boyd, Stevie’s foster mother, told The Dodo, “He slept most of the way [home], but would occasionally begin growling and barking in his crate.” “We realized he was merely attempting to defend himself. We brought the box inside when we arrived at our residence, and he refused to leave. We were especially cautious, given that he was blind and we did not yet know him.

As he began to heal physically and mentally, Stevie began to emerge from his shell, and it wasn’t long before he transformed into the biggest mush of a dog. His foster family adored seeing him experience so many firsts, including sleeping in his own bed for the first time.

Stevie’s foster family made sure to provide him with a comfortable dog bed, realizing that he had likely never had one before. He immediately began jumping for joy upon feeling how soft it was with his paws.

Stevie must now perform his little leaping dance whenever he encounters a dog bed. He is simply overjoyed to have something that is intended to make him feel good and comfortable, and he must constantly demonstrate this to everyone.

Boyd explained, “He jumps, occasionally chews on a toy for a short time, and then passes out.”

Stevie has adjusted remarkably well to his foster home despite his blindness, and everyone is astounded by his progress.

Boyd exclaimed, “He’s so intelligent!” “He quickly figured out how to navigate my residence.” From the backyard to the garage and up the three stairs to the house, he has access. When he enters the home, he knows to wait for a reward in the kitchen and to jump onto my bed via my small circular ottoman. He also enjoys cuddling, going for walks, chewing on squeaky toys, and giving kisses.”

Stevie is currently available for adoption and is seeking a local family who recognizes and values his uniqueness. He requires a home without other pets, preferably with an individual who is frequently present and can provide him with the care he lacked during his first eight years.

Boyd added, “[Someone] who will simply spend time with him on the couch, take him for walks, let him soak up the sun, and shower him with love.”

Stevie has been through a lot, but now that he has his comfortable dog beds and a large number of people who adore him, he believes that everything will be fine.
